Leah Jayasinghe and Githsaara Panapitiya of the British School in Colombo (BSC) gained top individual honours at the International Schools Under-12 Girls’ Football Tournament held at the Moragasmulla Grounds.

Together played a significant role throughout this three-day tournament as the BSC secured the runners-up place while going down to Gateway College, Colombo in the final encounter.

Leah took the Most Valuable Player Award while Githsaara won the Golden Boot Award for becoming the highest goal scorer of the tournament.

The BSC Girls were leading 1-0 with just two minutes remaining in this exciting final before Gateway managed to level the scores in the last moment through a free kick.

Afterwards, Gateway went on to clinch the title by winning the penalty shootout by a single penalty.

Formerly, the British School defeated Royal Institute (5-0) and Colombo International School (4-0) before overcoming Stafford International (1-0) in the semi-finals.

The British School Girls’ Under-12 Football Team was coached by Manjula Sirisena and Sean Connolly.
