Ashen Karunaratne gained a bronze medal in the ongoing Commonwealth Weightlifting Tournament in Suva, Fiji. The tournament has senior, junior, and youth groups.
Ashen competed in the less than 61 kg weight class and lifted 233 kg to win the bronze medal. He lifted 103 kg in the snatch method and 130 kg in the clean and jerk method. The tournament started 16 days ago and will remain until September 24.
Apart from Ashen Karunaratne (61 kg), Pasindu Malawana (81 kg), and Abidh Jameel (96 kg) will also compete among over 300 athletes from 30 countries in this event.
