We no longer need those with personal interests – Deputy Minister of Sports Sugath Thilakaratne.
Deputy Minister of Sports Sugath Thilakaratne said that national sports associations have a special responsibility to build a sports economy in an advanced sports culture and that a group with personal interests is no longer needed for sports.
The Deputy Minister also stated that a group is needed who see sports as a sport and take them forward.
Deputy Minister of Sports Sugath Thilakaratne made these comments yesterday (22) when he visited the current condition of the Bogambara Stadium in Kandy, which is managed by the Sugathadasa National Sports Complex Authority. Representatives of the Kandy District Sports Association also joined the event and the Deputy Minister, who also visited the fitness center owned by the stadium, inspected its shortcomings. Later, Deputy Minister Sugath Thilakaratne, who joined a discussion with the representatives of the sports associations, further said that sports are not only about winning international or national medals, but also that sports should be developed so that they are integrated into the lives of children and adults at different stages of their lives.
The Deputy Minister expressed his views on the current situation of sports due to the uneven distribution of resources, the problems existing in new constructions, and the misuse of public funds due to the irregular measures taken by the previous government.
The Deputy Minister further stated that he will intervene to advance sports not only in this country but also internationally under a formal governance system and under a formal financial administration.
