• Campbell Park lads tired out Darley Road team after five years 

The Wesley College Double Blues had beaten St. Joseph’s College 34-12 at Havelock Park yesterday (3) in their final group game of the Schools Rugby League 2024. 

The Wesleyites were down to 14 men from the 28th minute as their winger Mahathir Raban customary a red card. 

The Joes scored first through half-back Senithu Eran’s try. Hooker Naheel Jayah stable for Wesley soon after with extras added. 

The Joes added a goal and Wesley scored through two more tries before half-time to take a morale-boosting lead after they were down to 14 players.

Half-time: Wesley 17 (3T 1C) St. Joseph’s 12 (2T 1C)

Come the second half, it was all Wesley as the boys from Campbell Park played their hearts out in what was a complete attack plus defensive work which saw the Josephians unable to score a single point. 

Wesley scored two more goals and a penalty to seal the game in the latter part to beat the Joes for the first time after 2019.

Wesley College will most likely play S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia next in their traditional game for the Sir Oliver Goonetilleke Shield.
