{"id":9483,"date":"2025-08-15T21:03:44","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T15:33:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/slsports.lk\/?p=9483"},"modified":"2025-08-15T21:03:45","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T15:33:45","slug":"former-sri-lankan-cricketer-banned-for-five-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/slsports.lk\/si\/former-sri-lankan-cricketer-banned-for-five-years\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Sri Lankan cricketer banned for five years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Former Sri Lankan domestic cricketer Saliya Saman has been banned from cricket for five years by the International Cricket Council (ICC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He was found guilty of the charges against him by an ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In September 2023, eight people were charged with breaching the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code, including Saliya Saman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The charges were filed in connection with an attempt to fix matches in the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 League.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Accordingly, after a full hearing, written and oral arguments, the Tribunal has found Saliya Saman guilty of the following 3 charges:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Article 2.1.1 \u2013 Being party to an attempt to fix, contrive or influence improperly matches or aspects of matches in the Abu Dhabi T10 2021.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Article 2.1.3 \u2013 Offering a Reward to another Participant in exchange for that player engaging in Corrupt Conduct under the Code.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Article 2.1.4 \u2013 Directly or indirectly soliciting, inducing, enticing, instructing, persuading, encouraging or intentionally facilitating any Participant to breach Code Article 2.1.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ban imposed on the 39-year-old Saman is to take effect from September 13, 2023, when he was provisionally banned from cricket.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Sri Lankan domestic cricketer Saliya Saman has been banned from cricket for five years by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
