Sri Lanka Squash held its 43rd Annual General Meeting on 23rd June 2025, where a new Executive Committee was elected to guide the sport\u2019s development in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Group Captain Eranda Geeganage, a Chartered Engineer in Electronic Engineering, was appointed President. A long-standing contributor to Sri Lanka Squash, he previously served as Vice President and Chairman of the Tournament Committee and played a key role in organizing PSA-accredited international events, including Sri Lanka\u2019s first PSA satellite tournament in 2021 and several PSA International Challenger tournaments. He currently serves as the Director Media of the Sri Lanka Air Force as well as the Secretary of the Air Force Sports Council. Further, he shouldered as the General Coordinator of the recently held 80th CISM (International Military Sports Council) General Assembly and Congress. Group Captain Geeganage also holds the Olympic Solidarity Sports Administrator Diploma awarded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eranga Alwis was appointed Secretary. A former national player and selector, he is a CFA-qualified banker and holds an MSc in Financial Mathematics from the University of Colombo. He also holds an Olympic Solidarity Sports Administrator Certificate from the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Eranga previously served as Secretary and spearheaded the National Training Program from 2019 to 2023, launching the High-Performance Training Program in 2021, which contributed to multiple Sri Lankan players breaking into the top 250 of the PSA world rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brigadier Kaminda Silva, Commodore Manoj Leelarathne and Pujitha Udalamatta were elected Vice Presidents. Brigadier Silva played a key role in developing Squash within the Sri Lanka Army and led the 2022 regional expansion plan, spreading the sport to areas like Trincomalee, Galle and Kurunegala. He also secured support from Pakistan to develop the game in Sri Lanka. Commodore Manoj Leelarathne helped promote Squash in the Navy and supported the regional program, while Pujitha Udalamatta contributed significantly to developing Squash at the school level. Nilruk Soysa, a former national player and economist, was elected Treasurer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Looking ahead, the newly appointed Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Squash is set to spearhead a series of revitalization efforts aimed at elevating the sport both nationally and internationally. A key priority will be the reactivation of the Regional Development Program, starting with five key districts in collaboration with the Tri Forces, and gradually expanding across the island to ensure widespread access to the sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Infrastructure development is central to this plan, with long-term goals including the establishment of a national squash complex equipped to host international tournaments and support high-performance training. These efforts reflect a clear commitment to building a sustainable, professional ecosystem for squash in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To enhance the overall standard of the sport, the committee will also invest in coaching and refereeing development, facilitating international training programs in partnership with the World Squash Federation and regional bodies. These initiatives aim to build local expertise and ensure the continuous transfer of knowledge to grassroots levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Further demonstrating the proficiency and ambition, Sri Lanka Squash will host major international events such as the 2026 Asian Junior Super Series and the 2027 Asian Junior Squash Championship, while also expanding local hosting of PSA International tournaments to raise the country\u2019s profile as a regional squash hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    These developments are supported by recent milestones in athlete performance. National Champion Ravindu Laksiri, currently ranked world #107, has won 11 PSA Satellite and 5 PSA International titles and was named PSA Player of the Year 2024. Rising stars like Shamil Wakeel, Chanithma Sinlay and Yehani Kuruppu have also made significant strides on the international circuit, underlining the country\u2019s growing talent base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    With squash included in the 2028 Olympic Games, the Executive Committee is committed to guiding Sri Lanka\u2019s athletes toward a podium finish at the 2026 Asian Games and Olympic qualification, through robust high-performance programs, global tournament participation and grassroots development.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
