Sri Lanka Athletics (SLA) has carry out a four-year ban on its former Vice President S.W. Nimalsiri following a probe lead into an alleged death threat issued by the latter to obligatory Vice President of SLA G.L.S. Perera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A three-member committee commissioned by SLA, led by retired District Court Judge Upali Samaraweera, found Nimalsiri guilty of issuing a death threat to Perera. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was established by SLA Secretary General Saman Kumara Gunawardena, who said that at the time of the suspension, Nimalsiri had been a committee member of SLA, the President of the Ace Athletic Club, and the Secretary of the Colombo District Athletic Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The three-member investigative committee had also contained of former Director (Administration) of the Department of Sports Padma Siriwardana and SLA Disciplinary Committee Chairman Chandana Ekanayake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gunawardena added that a recommendation delivered by Perera with the support of the Executive Committee that SLA approval should be sought for all officiating purposes of track and field events in the country had irked Nimalsiri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the SLA Secretary, the probe committee selected by the sport\u2019s controlling body had unearthed with evidence a death threat issued to Perera by the body\u2019s former Vice President over the recommendation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
