Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage said that his judgment on granting temporary approval to leave the country for Bangladeshi national of British origin Tamim Rahman, who has been charged with match-fixing at the LPL 2024, will be delivered on 19 September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rahman, owner of the LPL franchise Dambulla Thunders, has been charged with match-fixing at the player auction held at a five-star hotel in Colombo previous to the start of the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kalinga Indatissa, PC, appearing for the suspect, requested the Chief Magistrate to temporarily lift the overseas travel ban imposed on his client and to release him under any suitable bail condition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Senior State Counsel Udara Karunatilaka, impeaching, told the court that investigations into the case were still proceeding and said that they had also called for documents linked to telephone conversations of the suspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He informed the court that the suspect had apparently engaged in talks related to match-fixing via phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Karunatilaka said that as they were about to carry out a forensic test connected to voice records of the suspect; it was imperious that the latter remained in the country when it was conducted and therefore urged the court not to accede to the suspect\u2019s request.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Having considered submissions by the defence and the prosecution, the court stated that its decision on the same would be announced on the said date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Afterwards, Chief Magistrate Gamage enlarged the suspect on cash bail of Rs. 500,000 and on two sureties of Rs. 10 million each. <\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
