Andy Murray has declared he will retire from tennis after the 2024 Paris Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 37-year-old is planning to play in the singles and doubles in Paris, in what will be his fifth Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cArrived in Paris for my last ever tennis tournament,\u201d Murray wrote on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCompeting for Team GB has been by far the most memorable weeks of my career and I\u2019m extremely proud to get to do it one final time!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Scot\u2019s first Games entrance was in Beijing in 2008, when he lost in straight sets to Lu Yen-Hsun in the first round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Murray put the dissatisfaction of a Wimbledon final defeat to Roger Federer weeks earlier by beating the Swiss at London 2012 to win gold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Murray became the first male tennis player to victory two Olympic singles titles four years later when he beat Argentina\u2019s Juan Martin del Potro in Rio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The three-time Grand Slam winner has fought back from career-saving hip surgery in January 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Murray, a two-time Wimbledon champion, played competitively at SW19 for one last time earlier this month when he was bashed out of the doubles in the first round alongside his brother Jamie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A back injury had threatened Murray\u2019s participation at Wimbledon and he left it until the final moment before pulling out of the singles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking after his overthrow at Wimbledon, Murray said: \u201cIt is hard because I want to keep playing, but I can\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPhysically it\u2019s too tough now. I want to play forever. I love the sport.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
