A. M. R. Wijesuriya of the Eastern Province and Vidusha Lakmali of the North Central Province established new records on the opening day of the 48th National Sports Games (NSG) Athletic Championships 2024, which instigated at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wijesuriya devastated a 29 year-old record while opposing in the Women\u2019s 10,000m as she clocked 34:35.9s and bettered the previous record of 35:03.0s held by Nilmini Jayasena in 1995.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, Dakshitha set up a new record in the Women\u2019s pole vault as she produced a fine effort of 3.51m and shattered her own previous record of 3.50m set in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the meantime, Lakmali set up a new record in the Women\u2019s discus throw event as she cleared 45.50m and renewed her own record of 44.59m set in 2023.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the other events Dilhani Lekamge (Sabaragamuwa) won the Women\u2019s javelin throw, V. Vakshan (Central) won the Women\u2019s 5,000m, Madhushani Herath (Uva) won the Women\u2019s triple jump, Western Province won the 4X100m Women\u2019s relay and Southern Province won the Men\u2019s 4X100m relay Gold Medals.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nesarasa Daksitha of the Northern Province, W.
