David Pine, High Commissioner of New Zealand to Sri Lanka, at the Ministry premises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first historic cricket match between Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) and New Zealand was played on October 17, 1937. Our discussion focused on organising a special celebratory cricket series in New Zealand in January 2027 to mark the centenary of cricketing ties between the two nations. I also gratefully accepted the High Commissioner&#8217;s gracious official invitation to attend and witness this historic series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, the High Commissioner pledged the New Zealand Government&#8217;s full support toward the development of rugby in Sri Lanka, the implementation of Youth Exchange Programmes, and the overall empowerment of Sri Lankan youth.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>100 Years of Sri Lanka\u2013New Zealand Cricket Ties: Special Bilateral Discussion with the High Commissioner of New Zealand!
