Sunil Kumara Gamage, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, emphasized that this event will be instrumental in placing Sri Lanka in a prominent position on the global map as a premier international sports tourism destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With an expected participation of over 4,000 local and foreign athletes, this marathon will also serve as a testament to Sri Lanka&#8217;s commitment toward achieving the United Nations&#8217; Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event will feature five race categories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Full Marathon (42.195 km)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Half Marathon (21.097 km)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10 km Race<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5 km Fun Run<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kids\u2019 Mini Run (1\u20132 km)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Technical operations will be overseen by a team of 100 qualified officials from Sri Lanka Athletics.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports officially announced today that the &#8220;Colombo Marathon,&#8221; organized for the first time by the Ministry, will be held in Colombo in September 2026.
