Jake Paul has had two titanium plates fixed and some teeth removed after Anthony Joshua broke his jaw in two places throughout the American\u2019s stoppage defeat in their heavyweight fight in Miami.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 28-year-old went six rounds with two-time world heavyweight champion Joshua, but the fight was stopped when Paul failed to beat the count following repeated knockdowns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The YouTuber-turned-boxer hit the canvas twice in the fifth and sixth rounds and said in his post-fight comments he thought his jaw was \u201cdefinitely\u201d broken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSurgery went well thanks for all the love and support,\u201d wrote Paul on Instagram. \u201cHave to have only liquids for seven days.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paul posted an image of his X-ray on social media that showed the double break, external on his jawline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In spite of missing the post-fight news conference as a result of the injury, Paul joked he could take on former four-weight world champion Saul Canelo Alvarez \u201cin 10 days\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA broken jaw is very common in sports, predominantly in boxing or MMA,\u201d Most Valuable Promotions chief Nakisa Bidarian said. \u201cThe recovery time is four to six weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paul was a huge underdog against his vastly more experienced opponent and he tried to use his speed and footwork to stay away from the Briton\u2019s big punches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fight had attracted criticism because of the weight difference and experience gap between the fighters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paul has fought most of his career at cruiserweight and says he means to take \u201csome time off\u201d from boxing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will heal the broken jaw, come back and fight people my weight. I\u2019m going for the cruiserweight world title,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m going to take a little break. I\u2019ve been going hard for six years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s next for Paul after loss?<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Paul has made a career out of being impossible to predict \u2013 with the one constant his eagerness to disrupt the sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just a few months ago, the prospect of Paul facing Joshua seemed fanciful, but he has now ticked that off his wishlist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to facing Joshua, Paul was campaigning at cruiserweight and the WBA announced he would enter their rankings at number 14 in July.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has since slipped down one place, so a return to that division would appear most logical if he is to eventually achieve his dream of fighting for a world title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bidarian said Paul \u201cdrove himself to hospital\u201d jaw after losing to Joshua and could need \u201cfour to six weeks\u201d to recover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once Paul gets the green light to contest in 2026 he might begin to cast his eye at those above him in the WBA cruiserweight rankings \u2013 and one name that stands out is Manchester\u2019s Pat Brown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brown is unbeaten in five fights as a professional and could jump at the chance to fight on a big stage and enhance his reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Otherwise, Paul continued to express a desire to face Alvarez and will no doubt continue to pursue one of the biggest names still active in the sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
