Two Indian team managers participating in the Legends Cricket Trophy, currently underway in Sri Lanka, have been prohibited from leaving the country by the Colombo Magistrate Court.
The court issued the order following a complaint filed by the Special Investigations Unit of the Sports Ministry regarding match-fixing allegations.
According to a report in Lankadeepa, a retired Sri Lankan cricketer and a New Zealand cricketer have alleged that the two managers approached them to fix matches in the ongoing Legends Cricket Tournament in Kandy. The Special Investigations Unit of the Sports Ministry is conducting further inquiries into the complaint.
Sri Lanka is the first South Asian nation to criminalize several offenses related to match-fixing. Offenders could face up to 10 years in jail and fines of up to $555,000 for match-fixing under laws introduced by Sports Minister Harin Fernando in 2019.
