
The Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. Sunil Kumara Gamage, in accordance with the powers vested in him as the Minister in charge of the subject under Sections 32 and 33 of the Sports Act No. 25 of 1973, as amended, temporarily suspended the registration of the Sri Lanka Karate Do Federation by Gazette No. 2451/24 dated 2025-08-27.
The intervention by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is aimed at resolving the crisis situation prevailing in the administration of the Karate Do Federation of Sri Lanka, in the backdrop of allegations being leveled against the administration of the Karate Do Federation.
In particular, based on the findings of the Special Audit Report on the functioning of the Karate Do Federation of Sri Lanka conducted by the National Audit Office and the recommendations of the Inquiry Committee appointed by the Minister, a Working Task Force was appointed with immediate effect to carry out and manage the affairs of the Karate Do Federation of Sri Lanka in accordance with the powers vested in him under Sections 32 and 33 of the Sports Act No. 25 of 1973 and its amendments.
In line with the new Government’s sports policy, this intervention is being implemented with immediate effect on the instructions of the Hon. Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports to ensure integrity, transparency and accountability in the administration of National Sports Federations and to protect the best interests of the athletes who are its key stakeholders.
For this purpose, the Chairman of the Working Task Force has been appointed Mr. M. H. Marceau, a retired DIG and a distinguished officer of the Sri Lanka Police.
Accordingly, a Working Task Force will consist of the following members.

- Mr. Niluka Karunaratne, representative of the National Olympic Committee, member
- Mr. R. M. L. N. Bandara, retired SSP, member
- Mr. P. Upul Abeywickrama, member
- Mr. M. H. Mr. Ananda Kumara Member
This Working Task Force has been appointed for the limited matters of adopting a new constitution for the Sri Lanka Karate Do Federation, registering qualified members under the said constitution and holding a special general meeting and an annual general meeting under the new constitution.
