The 2025 Annual Youth Korfball Tournament concluded with great success on 27.12.2025 at the Sri Bodhi Stadium, Gampaha. Ten teams from several parts of the island participated in this Korfball tournament. The biggest and most valuable trophy awarded for the best sportsmanship, the championship, was won by the Elephant Bandi Bawa Sports Club Team, while the “AKC – 2025” championship was won by the National Academy of Education Team, while the runner-up was the Mahadivulwewa Sports Club Team, Trincomalee. This tournament was organized in a very short time and Korfball Sri Lanka was able to organize it very successfully, breaking the silence of the Korfball game in Sri Lanka for two years.
The fact that the Hon. Minister of Sports, Mr. Sunil Kumara Gamage, joined a program to introduce the game of Korfball in October and gave us the strength and courage to organize such a tournament was a great help for us.
With the full support of the International Korfball Association and following the rules and regulations of the Sri Lanka Sports Ministry, it was a major responsibility of our association to organize a major Korfball tournament before the end of this year.
We would like to express our sporting gratitude to all those who supported us in every way, including the athletes, sports teachers, coaches, Nestle Lanka, who have always been our strength, the parents of the athletes and our management committee, the members of the Sri Lanka Korfball family, and all those who supported us in every way. It is a great pride for our association to be able to bring together the coexistence of men and women and add a new experience to the sports field in Sri Lanka. We also extend special thanks to the members of the Korfball family for being able to organize this tournament with the strength of our association without sponsors.
Our aim at Korfball Sri Lanka is to select talented athletes for both domestic and international competitions next year and present talented teams for those competitions.
We were able to prove the strength of our Korfball family to the former corrupt officials of the Sports Ministry who tried to corruptly seize the sport of Korfball in Sri Lanka, as well as to the relative of the Sports Ministry official who tried to seize our Korfball game without any understanding of the game, tarnishing the honor of the Army and the high-ranking Army officer, as well as other high-ranking government officials. For those who have done nothing to develop the game of Korfball over the past year, the culture of exploiting such games, as well as country tours, has been lost in the current government’s rules, regulations and strategic management, which will be a great strength for the future of Sri Lankan sports.
