
Manama, 20 October 2025 – Team Sri Lanka continued to display determination and team spirit as competitions entered their second day at the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain today.
The highlight of the day came from the Beach Volleyball Boys’ Team, where Didula Maheema and Kusal Dulmina Sandaruwan secured a commanding 2–0 victory against host nation Bahrain in their preliminary round encounter. The pair showed excellent teamwork and composure, marking a memorable win for Sri Lanka.
In the Beach Volleyball Girls’ Preliminary Round, Chamudi Adithya and Shadeesha Dilrukshi represented Sri Lanka with courage and consistency against Kazakhstan. Although the Kazakh team won 2–0, the Sri Lankan pair displayed great fighting spirit throughout the match. Later, they faced a strong Chinese side, who managed to win 2–0 despite a spirited effort from the Sri Lankan duo.
In Kabaddi, both Sri Lankan teams took on powerhouse India in the Group A Preliminary Rounds today.
In the Kabaddi – Boys’ Team Preliminary Round (Group A), India defeated Sri Lanka 89–16. The Sri Lankan team consisted of Dasun Theekshana, Thilina Weerasuriya, Lasitha Pradeep Kumara, Sahan Rashmika, Sahan Iduwara Kulathunga, Pirathaap Karunakaran, Mohammed Milhan Mahi, Madusha Dilshara, Mohammed Niyaaf Zaini, Thisara Denuwan Pushpa Kumara, Mohammed Samri, Sithum Sathsara Samarasighe, Tharusha Nimsara and Mothisha Tashmika, who demonstrated discipline and persistence throughout the match. They also faced Bangladesh in today’s preliminary round, recording a close-fought contest where Bangladesh won 53–40.
In the Kabaddi – Girls’ Team Preliminary Round (Group A), India also came out on top, winning 73–10. Representing Sri Lanka were Amashi Sharanya, Rashmini Nikesha Eshani, Prabudhi Abhilasha, Sanjana Rukshani Bandara, Nethmini Hirushika, Dulakshi Deshani Perera, Lukshani Selwaraj, Amalsha Sayurangi, Thiyakarasa Nishalini, Denethi Theekshana, Pithursha Theiventhiran, Malmi Sanjana Samaranayake, Pusparasa Thirushsana and Hashini Akarshani Perera, who fought courageously until the final whistle.
The competitions officially began yesterday, 19th October 2025, marking the start of Team Sri Lanka’s participation, even though the Opening Ceremony will take place on 22nd October 2025.
Yesterday’s events featured the opening Kabaddi. In the Kabaddi – Girls’ Team Preliminary Round (Group A), Sri Lanka faced Thailand, where Thailand won 46–26 after a competitive match, while in the same group, I. R. Iran won against Sri Lanka with a score of 54 – 26. Meanwhile, in Kabaddi – Boys’ Team Preliminary Round (Group A), Sri Lanka defeated Bahrain 65–21, showcasing strong attacking plays from our athletes.
