Emerging school athlete Oshini Kodikara of St. Lawrence’s Convent, Colombo gained the first gold medal of the All-Island Schools Games Athletic Championship on day one of the meet held yesterday at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Sports Complex, Diyagama.

Oshini clinched the Under-20 girls’ long jump gold medal with a remarkable leap of 6.03 metres, marking the first top podium finish of this year’s event.

Nethuga Dinhash of Mount Calvary College, Galle, set the first new meet record of the championship, clocking 11.77 seconds in the Under-14 boys’ 100m heats, breaking the previous record of 11.82 seconds set by Dulneth Nethmika of Gateway College, Rajagiriya in 2024.
