Umaya Ovitigala, who represented Sri Lanka in the 10m Air Rifle Women’s Single Junior Category at the Asian Shooting Rifle / Pistol Championship held in New Delhi, India from 02 to 14 February, won a silver medal. She is currently a student of the Advanced Level Technology stream at Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya.
She was ranked 7th among the eight athletes who qualified for the final round in the preliminary round of this event and Umaya later came second in the final round to win the silver medal. With these victories, Umaya Ovitigala has made history as the first Sri Lankan medalist to win a singles event at the Asian level.
Amali Kulatunga (SL Army), Tharanga Dilrukshi (SL Navy) and Ruwini Abeymane (MAS Holdings) also won the silver medal in the air pistol team event at the 2015 Asian Shooting Championships held in New Delhi, India.
