Football Sri Lanka has included Jeremy Perera, a German League attacking midfielder of Sri Lankan descent, to its national squad for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup qualifiers for the 2026 International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) World Cup.
Accordingly, Perera officially joined the team after conference the President of Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) Jaswar Umar.
This change is part of Sri Lanka’s strategy to strengthen its lineup ahead of the (AFC) Asian Cup final round in March 2025.
The Asian qualifiers will assign 8 direct spots for the 2026 World Cup, with a ninth team going to the inter-confederation playoffs in hopes of making the tournament.
