The Sri Lanka Muay Thai National Championship 2026, organized by the Sri Lanka Muay Thai Federation, was successfully held from 4th to 8th January 2026 at the iconic Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. The event stood out as one of the most significant highlights in the national Muay Thai calendar, bringing together top talent from across the country.
Approximately 450 athletes representing 35 clubs from across Sri Lanka competed in multiple age and weight categories. The tournament was further elevated by the participation of elite teams, including the Sri Lanka Army and Sri Lanka Navy Muay Thai teams.
Bassam Murthasa, The World Youth Ambassador for IFMA (International federation of MuayThai Association) competed in this prestigious event and won the Gold Medal and The Best Fighter Award (12-13 age category). This is his 3rd consecutive Gold and best fighter Award.
His Sister Maryam Murthasa also won the Gold medal and Best fighter award in her age category. (16-17 age category)
His Younger brother Imad Murthasa won the silver medal in 10-11 age category.
The event inspired young athletes, reinforced national unity through sport, and contributed to the country’s growing recognition on the international Muay Thai stage.
