Sri Lanka carried a determined performance but barely lost 1-0 to Thailand in their AFC Asian Cup 2027 Qualifier final round Group D match at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Thailand yesterday (25).
Regardless of gaining momentum from their recent 2-1 win over Laos in a FIFA international friendly, Sri Lanka struggled to break their losing streak against the higher-ranked Thai side.
For that reason, ranked 200th in the world, Sri Lanka showed resilience and discipline against Thailand, who sit at 97th and are considered one of Asia’s top teams. Though Thailand controlled much of the game, Sri Lanka held firm for long periods and created a few promising chances of their own.
