Sri Lanka Cricket has taken steps to provide twenty-two thousand six hundred and eighty-four (22,684) cricket balls and cricket equipment kits for the Under-13 and Under-19 boys and girls school cricket matches across Sri Lanka under the ‘National Path’ programme, which is being implemented by Sri Lanka Cricket to provide equal opportunities to every cricketer with innate talent to represent the national team.
According to a concept of the Executive Committee led by Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva, this total number of balls was distributed to 900 teams comprising 863 schools representing the upcoming school season under the under-13 age group and 37 district teams comprising talented players from schools not playing cricket using leather balls, 282 schools representing the under-19 third tier boys’ cricket and 121 schools representing the under-19 girls’ cricket tournament.
In addition, steps were taken to distribute 116 equipment sets to schools playing under-13 age groups but not receiving equipment sets including cricket equipment used for boys’ cricket and to district teams during these days.
In this ball distribution, which was also carried out with the support of the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association, in addition to the red ball, 268 white balls were also distributed to 14 girls’ schools representing the first-tier girls’ tournament. Accordingly, 1268 red balls weighing 142 grams were distributed to 107 schools representing the second-tier girls’ tournament.
The Colombo District Cricket Association program under this ball distribution was held on the 14th and 16th of October 2025 at 10.00 a.m. at the Colombo District Cricket Association headquarters. In addition, in parallel with the program, arrangements were made to distribute these equipment simultaneously to all 24 other district sports associations.
Through the ‘Cricket to Village’ programme, which is implemented under the ‘National Development Pathway’ National Pathway Programme, Sri Lanka Cricket is launching a consistent annual campaign to provide cricket equipment and infrastructure facilities required to maintain and advance the game of cricket from the rural level to the national level, and through this, more than a thousand schools will be supported every year.
