South Africa won the fourth match of the five-match South Africa-New Zealand T20 series today, leveling the series at 2-2.
The New Zealand team came into the match today under the captaincy of Jimmy Neesham. Their regular captain Mitchell Santner did not play today’s match. Neesham entered the record books as the 12th captain to lead New Zealand in a T20I.
Batting first, South Africa scored 164 for 5. Connor Esterhuizen played a remarkable innings. He scored 57 runs in 36 balls, which was his maiden T20 half-century. He is now the highest scorer in this tournament with 125 runs.
Both Tom Latham and Devon Conway did not play today due to a thumb injury and the decision to rest Devon Conway, so New Zealand did not get off to a good start. Chasing a target of 165 to win, New Zealand were limited to 145 with 7 balls to spare.
All five South African bowlers except George Linde took wickets. 6 of New Zealand’s 10 wickets were taken by the South African fast bowling attack.
The tournament is now open to South Africa as well, thanks to their comeback after losing two consecutive matches.
