An 18-member squad for the Sri Lanka national netball outfit was selected recently targeting the forthcoming Asian Netball Championships in September 2024 (next year).
The initial selection trials were held last week at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo.
The Lankans have a lot to improve since their dismal performances a few months ago in Singapore at the Nations Cup Tournament where they hit rock bottom.
Known to be the queens of Asian Netball, Sri Lanka are the defending champions of the Asian Netball Championship having clinched the title in 2022 beating Singapore in a well contested 63-53 win.
Since its inception in 1985, Sri Lanka are also the most successful team in the championship having won six winning titles, four runner-ups and two third-place wins.
Singapore the 2nd most impressive team in history has clinched three championships, they are tipped to be the strongest outfit in the upcoming tourney as they routed Sri Lanka and other teams in the recently concluded Nations Cup held at their home courts where they even went to the extent of fielding a senior and a junior team.
Sri Lanka succumbed to both the teams in their playoffs.
