Former captain Kumar Sangakkara said that Sri Lanka’s 51-run defeat to England in the Super Eights match of the 2026 T20 World Cup in Kandy was due to their failure to understand the game situation and the Pallekele pitch.
Sangakkara also criticised the approach taken to chase down Sri Lankan batsman Kamil Mishara.
In a post on X, Sangakkara said that the planning and execution of Sri Lankan bowlers was sharply different from that of the batsmen.
“Mishara’s lack of intention and inability to read the game situation or the pitch cost them,” Sangakkara added.
Sri Lanka, who arrived at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy in pursuit of a modest target of 147 in the Super Eights of the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, suffered a 51-run defeat against England after being bowled out for 95 in 16.4 overs.
