
Rasara Wijesuriya enhanced on her national record with a feat of 32 minutes and 52.20 seconds in the 10,000 metres at the World University Games in Berlin recently.
The undergraduate from the Kelaniya University, thus became the first Sri Lankan athlete in the women’s category to break the 33-minute barrier in the longest track event.
The athlete first brake the national record under her belt when she clocked 33:39.60 seconds at the national trials held in February.
With her feats in Germany Rasara eclipsed US-based athlete Hiruni Wijayaratne’s national record (33:55.04 seconds).
