Sri Lanka is set to take part in the Asian Youth Netball Championship from June 14 to 21 in South Korea and at the World Youth Netball Championship from September 19 to 28 in Gibraltar.
A group of 20 to 25 players under the age of 21 are planned to be selected for the national youth netball squad.
In the meantime, two national and international-level coaches, Hyacinth Wijesinghe and P. D. Prasadi have been selected as the Head Coach and Assistant Coach respectively.
Though, the appointments have been late due to an objection raised by an applicant and a final decision will be taken this week, Director General of the Department of Sports Development Professor Shemal Fernando expressed Sri Lanka has gained the Asian Youth Championship on three occasions in 1998, 2002 and 2015. Sri Lanka finished third in the last tournament in 2023.
After winning the 2015 championship, Sri Lanka has not been able to win the championship for 10 years. The defending champion Malaysia has won the championship the most times.
