Sri Lanka national team players Kusal Mendis and Dasun Shanaka have not been included in the squad for the three-day Tier B domestic match that began yesterday at the Sinhala Sports Club (SSC).

The decision is reportedly due to the fact that the two left for the ILT20 without participating in the SSC domestic matches.

Both players left for the tournament after receiving a no-objection certificate from Sri Lanka Cricket regarding their participation in the ILT20 tournament.

Sri Lanka Cricket had recalled several national players who had participated in foreign leagues to ensure match training ahead of the upcoming World Cup and the home series against Pakistan.

As part of Sri Lanka Cricket’s preparation plans, all centrally contracted players were advised to participate in at least a three-day domestic match before the Pakistan series.

However, as per the SSC decision, Kusal Mendis and Dasun Shanaka are now unable to participate in the club’s scheduled red-ball match and have instead been restricted to training sessions.

SSC Sports Club is currently competing in the second division of the Sri Lankan domestic structure after last season.

Meanwhile, several players from the 25-member Sri Lankan squad participated in the three-day matches that began yesterday, with Kamindu Mendis and Janith Liyanage scoring centuries.

The Sri Lankan team is currently training in Colombo and is scheduled to leave for Dambulla on January 2 ahead of the Pakistan series that begins on January 7.
