
The Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka held a hand-over ceremony for baseball equipment donated by Hokkaido Bunkyo University to the Sri Lanka Baseball Softball Association at the Embassy Ballroom recently.
This initiative highlights the strong sports and cultural ties between Japan and Sri Lanka, further fostering friendship through baseball.
Hokkaido Bunkyo University gathered the donated baseball equipment with the generous contributions of the baseball enthusiasts of the university and the local community members.
On the Sri Lankan side, the donation was coordinated by Baseball Federation of Asia Deputy Umpire Director Sujeewa Wijayanayake, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Baseball Softball Association.
The ceremonial was graced by the presence of esteemed guests, with Hokkaido Bunkyo University President Dr. Toshihiro Watanabe, Hokkaido Bunkyo University Vice-President Harumi Ao, Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in Ibaraki Honorary Consul-General Dr. Sunil Gamage, Sri Lanka Baseball Softball Association President Asanga Seneviratne, and Baseball Federation of Asia Deputy Umpire Director Sujeewa Wijayanayake.
This contribution from Hokkaido Bunkyo University goals to support the development of baseball in Sri Lanka, providing young players with improved access to equipment and encouraging greater participation in the sport.
