The International Cricket Council (ICC) has rejected Bangladesh’s request to move the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup from India to Sri Lanka.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board had written to the ICC on Sunday (4) seeking a change of venue for its Group C matches in the upcoming tournament due to security concerns.

According to ESPNCricinfo, in a meeting held on Tuesday (6), the ICC told Bangladesh that it would reject the request and that Bangladesh wanted to play its matches in India.

The ICC reportedly said that Bangladesh risked losing points if they did not play the matches in India.

However, Bangladesh said that the ICC had not given any such ultimatum.

There has been no official statement from the ICC, the Board of Control for Cricket in India or the Bangladesh Cricket Board on the request.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided to submit the request to the ICC after the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were advised to release Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman from their IPL 2026 squad.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) secretary Devajit Saikia had earlier revealed that the Kolkata Knight Riders were informed to release Mustafizur after political uncertainty and violence in Bangladesh strained relations between the two countries.
