A fine all-round performance by Hiruni Hansika – who bagged four scalps and fractured an unbeaten 41 in 37 balls with six boundaries – paved the way for Galle Under-19 to record a undoubted 10-wicket win over Kandy Under-19 in the Sri Lanka Youth League Girls’ T20 Cricket Tournament played at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Hambantota yesterday.
Kandy Under-19 Girls’ taking first lease of the wicket were restricted for 87 runs and Hiruni along with Sanjana Kavindu – who made 27 – figured in a continuous opening wicket stand of 88 runs as they reached the target in the 12th over to emerge champions.
The champion Galle Under-19 Girls’ continued unbeaten and the other two teams that participated in this tournament were Dambulla Under-19 Girls’ and Colombo Under-19 Girls’.
Galle Under-19 Girls’ apart from emergent champion also bagged three of the four individual awards that were on offer for the Best Batter (Sanjana Kavindi), Best Bowler (Shehara Iduwari) and Player-of-the-Final (Hiruni Hansika) while Dhahami Senethma of Colombo Under-19 Girls’ was adjudged as the Player-of-the-Tournament.
