Former Sri Lankan domestic cricketer Saliya Saman has been banned from cricket for five years by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
He was found guilty of the charges against him by an ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal.
In September 2023, eight people were charged with breaching the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code, including Saliya Saman.
The charges were filed in connection with an attempt to fix matches in the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 League.
Accordingly, after a full hearing, written and oral arguments, the Tribunal has found Saliya Saman guilty of the following 3 charges:
Article 2.1.1 – Being party to an attempt to fix, contrive or influence improperly matches or aspects of matches in the Abu Dhabi T10 2021.
Article 2.1.3 – Offering a Reward to another Participant in exchange for that player engaging in Corrupt Conduct under the Code.
Article 2.1.4 – Directly or indirectly soliciting, inducing, enticing, instructing, persuading, encouraging or intentionally facilitating any Participant to breach Code Article 2.1.
The ban imposed on the 39-year-old Saman is to take effect from September 13, 2023, when he was provisionally banned from cricket.
