England’s preliminary squad for the 2026 Twenty20 World Cup and the England squad for the Sri Lanka tour have been announced by the country’s cricket board.
It is noteworthy that fast bowler Jofra Archer has been named in the World Cup squad. This comes after he missed the last two matches of this year’s Ashes Test series due to an injury (left side strain).
Jamie Smith and Jordan Cox have not been allocated a place in these squads.
It is also noteworthy that fast bowler Josh Tong has been named in the World Cup squad due to his performances in the Ashes. He has been named in the squad despite the fact that he has not played any international white-ball match for England so far.
Steps have also been taken to recall Ben Duckett to the squad.
