
The media briefing on the ‘‘Clean Sri Lanka Cycling Rally – 2025’’ was held today (20) at the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports under the patronage of the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage.
The event was attended by Additional Secretary to the President, S.P.C. Sugeeshwara, veteran cyclist of the Sri Lanka Cycling Judges’ Organization, former cycling president and international judge N. Karunaratne, officials of the Sri Lanka Cycling Federation, officers representing the tri-forces, officials of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, officials of the Civil Security Department, Director General of the Department of Sports Development, Shemal Fernando and Director General of the Institute of Sports Medicine, Dr. Lal Ekanayake.
This cycling rally is being organized under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in conjunction with the Sports Week in conjunction with the Clean Sri Lanka program implemented by the current government.
With the aim of introducing the people to a healthy life in order to give meaning to the ‘beautiful life’ in the government program ‘A Rich Country – A Beautiful Life’, and to create interest among the Sri Lankan people in cycling, which is spread in about 200 countries of the world, and to popularize the sports culture in the country, this cycling rally – 2025 is being organized in conjunction with the Clean Sri Lanka program, according to a concept by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr. Sunil Kumara Gamage.
Since we have talented cyclists who have won gold medals in South Asian and Asian cycling competitions, this ‘‘Clean Sri Lanka Cycling Rally – 2025’’ is to be implemented with the aim of reinvigorating cycling in the country and simultaneously reviving cycling competitions such as ‘Giri Tharan, Lanka Sawariya and Galle Sawariya’ that have been stalled.
This ‘‘Clean Sri Lanka Cycling Rally – 2025’’, which is planned to be held annually, is scheduled to commence on 26th July 2025 near the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Colombo 07, and any local/foreigner above the age of 08 years and in good health can participate in this. The maximum distance of this cycling race is 10 km. 100 km, and you can join the race for a distance of 50 km, 25 km, 10 km, and 05 km.
You must apply for this ‘‘Clean Sri Lanka Cycling Rally – 2025’’ before 15.07.2025, and the conditions, instructions and application form related to this cycling rally are also attached herewith.
Also, a valuable certificate will be awarded to every rider who registers before the due date and completes the specified distance.
