China-Sri Lanka Friendship Cup Dragon Boat Championship 2025 was held at Diyawanna Rowing Centre, Sri Lanka, on May 31, 2025.

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka, together with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sri Lanka, the National Association of Canoeing and Kayaking in Sri Lanka (NACKSL) of the Sri Lanka Navy, and the Amateur Rowing of Sri Lanka (ARASL), in commemoration of the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival (May 31), organised the China-Sri Lanka Friendship Cup Dragon Boat Championship 2025.

The occasion was graced by HE the Ambassador to the Embassy of the Peoples’ Republic of China in Sri Lanka, and the Hon. Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports. 

Participants included several Sri Lankan rowing school teams, 7 schools’ dragon boat teams from Jaffna, Clubs, universities, triforces, and Chinese and Sri Lankan  participants’ teams. Over 400 participants took part in this event.

Race categories included

            Open men’s / Open women’s

            Junior under 18 boys’ / Junior under 18 girls’

            Masters women over 40

            Open Mixed category

Led by the Captain Anusara Akmeemana, and the Vice Captain Thisali Welage, Visakhians emerged gold medalists in both events they took part in.

Junior Girls’ – Champions.

It was exciting to witness the Visakhians displaying unity, rhythm, style and excellance as they rowed to victory in both evets. The supprot extended by the school, the Tea is recorded with much gratitude.
