
A meeting between Sri Lankan athletes who won 5 silver medals and 18 bronze medals at the ASBC Asian Under-22 Boxing Championship and Youth Boxing Championship and the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage, was held yesterday (May 30) at the Duncan White Auditorium of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Sports Sugath Thilakaratne, Director General of Sports Development Shemal Fernando, President of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) Anuruddha Bandara, athletes and coaches who participated in the ASBC Asian Under-22 Boxing Championship and Youth Boxing Championship.
The Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sunil Kumara Gamage, said that it was a challenge to prepare for this international tournament in Sri Lanka, and that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports had worked hard for it.
Addressing the athletes, the Minister said that he congratulated all the athletes who won the Asian Boxing Tournament and that they should strive to bring an Olympic medal to the country in boxing in the future.
Participating in this event, Deputy Minister of Sports, Sugath Thilakaratne, said that he was happy to be able to hold this tournament in the country for the promotion of sports, and that the Ministry would provide the necessary facilities to bring an Olympic victory in boxing. The Deputy Minister of Sports further expressed his views and said that in the future, he hopes to provide scholarships to children with special talents in boxing.
