Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage summoned the district association representatives of the National Netball Federation to the Sports Ministry today (19) to inquire about the current situation in the Netball Federation.
The representatives of the Netball Federation were asked about the current situation and were also questioned at length about the factors that led to the current crisis.
Later, addressing the association representatives, the Minister said, “We are not gamers, we will never play with the game, and we will not allow anyone to do so.” He stressed that there is no special friendship or special resentment with any sports association or officials, and that everyone should come together to resolve the internal problems that have arisen within the associations themselves and move the game forward.
The Minister also instructed that the legal proceedings related to netball be completed as soon as possible, the election be held in accordance with the constitution and the board of officers be re-appointed, and that he would not interfere in any of those matters.
Deputy Ministers Sugath Thilakaratne, Eranga Gunasekara and officials of the Ministry of Sports were also present at this event.
