Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mr. Sunil Kumara Gamage issued a gazette notice assigning the administrative responsibilities of the Motor Sports Association to the Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Accordingly, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports has taken steps to temporarily suspend the registration of the National Sports Association related to motor sports in Sri Lanka.
According to the Extraordinary Gazette Notice No. 2511/21 issued in that regard, the Secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has been appointed as the competent authority to supervise the administrative affairs of the association. The appointment will be effective from October 15, 2026.
The responsibilities assigned to the Ministry Secretary are to streamline the administrative affairs of the association, amend the existing constitution in accordance with the Sports Act and carry out the necessary activities for electing a new board of officers.
According to the revised constitution, the Ministry Secretary is also empowered to manage the administrative affairs of the association until an annual general meeting is held and a new board of officers is elected.
This step is expected to streamline the administrative structures of the relevant sports associations, make constitutional amendments and appoint new officers under a legal system.
