Two promising competitors Tharushika Senaratne and Manuthi Irugalbandara from the Anuradhapura Central College, clinched silver and bronze medals respectively at the 11th Commonwealth Karate Championship in Durban, South Africa.
Senaratne, who competed in the Under-21 age 50 kg weight category, won the silver, although Irugalbandara, who disputed in the Under-18 59 kg weight class, had grabbed bronze.
This is also the first-time ever that two Sri Lanka sportswomen hailing from the same school in the North Central Province, had managed to win medals at a Commonwealth Championship.
